The hidden meaning of God’s oneness

＊The Shema שמע (聽) has been called the thesis statement of Judaism. It is the Bible’s most succinct statement of the belief in one God. It explains our obligation to love the Lord with all our heart, all our soul and all our might. These are the first words recited each morning and the last words each night by observant Jews. But the deepest truths of the Shema can only be understood when reading it in the original Hebrew.
Shema被稱為猶太教的首要教義。這是聖經對一位上帝信仰的最簡潔陳述。它解釋了我們全心全意，全力以赴地愛主的義務。這些是猶太人每天早上背誦的第一句話，也是每個猶太人每晚的最後一句話。但是，用希伯來文閱讀時，更能理解Shem最深刻的真理。

Shem：a Hebrew text consisting of three passages from the Pentateuch and beginning “Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one.” It forms an important part of Jewish evening and morning prayer and is used as a Jewish confession of faith.

※The numbers behind the letters
＊According to the ancient alphanumeric system known as “Gematria (a Kabbalistic神秘的 method of interpreting the Hebrew scriptures by computing the numerical value of words, based on those of their constituent letters.)”, every Hebrew letter has a numerical value. The first letter Alef (א) equals 1, the second, Bet (ב), equals 2 and so on.
希伯來文字母都代表一個數字，像第一個字母Alef (א)代表1，第二個字母Bet (ב)代表2。
＊When you add up the values of the letters, you get the numerical value of the Hebrew word. The Shema ends with the words “the Lord is One”. In Hebrew, One is ehad אחד:
(ח=8, א=1 and ד=4). This word has the total numerical value of 13 (1+8+4=13).
希伯來文字中的字母，將每個字母代表的數字加總，產生該字的數值。

A biblical message of love；上帝是愛
Amazingly, the numerical value of the Hebrew word for love, ahava (אהבה), is also 13 (ה=5, ב=2, ה=5, א=1).

＊Many biblical scholars believe this means that at the deepest mystical level the concept of God’s oneness is inextricably linked to the concept of love. Only in Hebrew can you feel the essence of this unique prayer; the Lord is a loving God and worshiping him means bringing love into the world.
