馬太福音 5:3 虛心的人有福了！因為天國是他們的。
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
3 Μακάριοι οἱ πτωχοὶ τῷ πνεύματι, ὅτι αὐτῶν ἐστιν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν.

它是形容一無所有、即絕對的貧乏的人。頹喪與絕對貧窮的人是有福的。赤貧如洗的人有福了。

耶穌講論八福的時候，是用亞蘭語而不是用希臘語。上述的這些經節希伯來文中所指的窮人，都是謙卑、無助、完全信靠上帝的人。
