《Between God and earth 上帝對這世界的保守與看顧》
※One word sums it all up一個字表明了上帝許多的性質
The original language of the Bible, Hebrew, is a very succinct language. Sometimes one Hebrew word can have a dozen different meanings in translation. One of the richest words in the Hebrew language is the word pakad פקד.
聖經原本希伯來語言,是一種非常簡潔的語言。但有時,一個希伯來詞可以在翻譯中有十幾種不同的含義。希伯來語中含意最多的詞之一是pakadפקד 。
-①-In its most basic sense, this means “to appoint”. For example,
「pakad פקד」這字最基本的意義是「指派」,例如以西結書1-2:
King Cyrus declares “the Lord, the God of heaven…has charged (pakad) me to build him a house at Jerusalem in Judah” (Ezra 1:2). (KJV)
2 “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.(NASB)
2「波斯王古列如此說:『耶和華天上的神已將天下萬國賜給我,又囑咐我在猶大的耶路撒冷為他建造殿宇。
and he hath charged:פָקַ֤ד
※Divine Visitation神聖的探訪
-②-But Pakad has deeper divine meanings.
「pakad פקד」這字亦有另一神聖的意義。例如:創21:1節
For example, prior to the Isaac’s birth, “the Lord visited Sarah as He had said” (Gen. 21:1).
21And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.
1耶和華按著先前的話眷顧撒拉,便照他所說的給撒拉成就。
visited:פָּקַ֥ד
This is not a physical visit, but rather God keeping his promise to Sarah.
這不是實際的訪問,而是上帝保守他對撒拉的承諾。
-③-Conversely, when God punishes evildoers the same word is used,
上帝用同一個字,來述說懲罰惡人。
“the Lord will punish the arrogant boasting of the king of Assyria” (Isa. 10:12).
12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
12主在錫安山和耶路撒冷成就他一切工作的時候,主說:「我必罰亞述王自大的心和他高傲眼目的榮耀。」
I will punish:אֶפְקֹ֗ד
(6485) pakad פקד
Here the Hebrew word pakad, is used for “punish” because the Lord will cause his wrath to be visited upon the Assyrians.
在這裡,希伯來文pakad用於「懲罰」,因為主會使他的憤怒「訪問」亞述人。
Hebrew: Learn to read between the lines希伯來語:學會在聖經各章節間之閱讀
These three verses illustrate three different ways in which the God of Israel has a relationship with human beings: appointing, visiting and punishing.
這三節經文說明了上帝與人類有三種不同的關係:任命,眷顧和懲罰。
Only when read in the original Hebrew can you see that these are all one word – pakad – which is the essence of God’s identity in the world.
只有在希伯來文聖經中,才能看出這些都是用同一個詞「(6485) pakad פקד」, 來表達都是上帝的屬性。
