《上帝造人的目的》
創世紀 1:26~28清楚的指出上帝造人的目的，是要叫他們來管理祂所造的世界。
創世紀 1:26神說：「我們要照著我們的形像、按著我們的樣式造人，使他們管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥、地上的牲畜，和全地，並地上所爬的一切昆蟲。」1:27 神就照著自己的形像造人，乃是照著他的形像造男造女。1:28 神就賜福給他們，又對他們說：「要生養眾多，遍滿地面，治理這地，也要管理海裡的魚、空中的鳥，和地上各樣行動的活物。」
上帝將管理居所的任務，交給按照自己形像所造的人。這是何等的特權！人要在上帝之下來管理世界和其中所有的東西。
如果我們比較後來上帝設立祭司來管理聖殿，那麼人就是上帝所設立來管理一切受造的祭司。我們也可以從
創世記2 : 15 :「耶和華上帝將那人安置在伊甸園，使他修理看守。」
來看，希伯來文「修理」、「看守」這兩個字，都出現在後來祭司管理聖殿的責任上面(民3 :7-8)。
15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. the man: or, Adam(KLV)

民數記 3:7 替他和會眾在會幕前守所吩咐的，辦理帳幕的事。3:8 又要看守會幕的器具，並守所吩咐以色列人的，辦理帳幕的事。
7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

因此，人具有上帝的形像與人被賦予的特殊使命有關。薛佛(Francis Schaefer)說：這是人與上帝之間特殊的關係，也是人與其它一切受造有所區別的主要因素。
這上帝的形像使「愛」(love；agape)成為可能，也使聯繫和對話(communication)成為可能。它使人能夠明白上帝的啟示，也是人認識自己的基礎。
