《The Biblical mother-in-law》《聖經裡「婆婆」的真義》

※Wherever You Go, I Will Go
In ancient times, since a woman was entirely dependent on her husband’s livelihood, it was up to the mother-in-law to protect her in the event that something happened to her husband.
古代以色列,妻子完全倚靠丈夫生活。當丈夫發生了意外,丈夫的母親•婆婆就要負起保護媳婦的責任。

We see this in the book of Ruth. When her husband dies in Moab, Ruth stands firmly with her mother-in-law Naomi and returns with her to Bethlehem. In exchange for this loyalty, Naomi protects Ruth, arranging for her to marry a wealthy relative of hers.
在聖經路德記,路得的丈夫死在摩押地,路得緊緊跟隨婆婆拿俄米回伯利恆。拿俄米為了保護忠心的路得,就安排將路得嫁給她一個富有的親戚。

Naomi is a good example of how the biblical mother-in-law was something quite different than what we assume today. She was a guardian.
拿俄米是聖經中一位好婆婆的例子,她是一位好監護人,這與現今的狀況不同。
~~
**得 2:18 他就把所拾取的帶進城去給婆婆看,又把他吃飽了所剩的給了婆婆。
**得 2:18 And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed
(2545) חֲמוֹת
חמת חמות chămôth chămôth kham-oth, kham-oth
Feminine of H2524; a mother in law, husbands mother
~
(2524) חם châm khawm
From the same as H2346; a father in law 公公(as in affinity)
~
(2346) חומה chômâh kho-maw
Feminine active participle 女性現在分詞of an unused root字根 apparently meaning to join; a wall of protection
~~
*-1-This is demonstrated by the Hebrew word for mother-in-law: ḥamot (חמות) which comes from the root ḤMH meaning “to surround and protect”.
「婆婆」在希伯來文字根是「保守與看顧」的意思。

*-2-This root is also the source of the word ḥomah(חומה) (2346) which means a “city wall”.
「婆婆」的字根根源也是從「城牆」而來。
The prophet Isaiah wrote: “I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Jerusalem, they shall never hold their peace day nor night” (Isa. 62:6).
6耶路撒冷啊,我在你城上設立守望的,他們晝夜必不靜默。
wall:(2346) חומה

※Behind the wall of translation
Naomi became the ḥomah (חומה)(2346), who protected Ruth.
拿俄米婆婆是路得四圍的保護。
It is only when we read the Bible in Hebrew that we begin to appreciate the stories and relationships between Biblical heroes, as their true connection comes to light.
讀希伯來文聖經更能看到真光。
