You have probably heard the name Gethsemane, but did you know that it actually means something?

可 14:26他們唱了詩，就出來，往橄欖山去。可 14:32 他們來到一個地方，名叫客西馬尼。耶穌對門徒說：「你們坐在這裡，等我禱告。」
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
At the base of the Mount of Olives there was a garden where the farmers of Jerusalem would bring their harvested olives to be pressed into oil.
耶穌在最後晚餐之後，來到橄欖山的客西馬尼禱告。

The name Gethsemane is significant because it underscores the essence of Jesus’ suffering at the time of his arrest.
耶穌在「客西馬尼」被逮補，這字的內涵顯出：耶穌順服天父旨意，將遭受令人難以想像的極大的迫害。
As Scripture says,
“being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground” (Luke 22:44).
44 耶穌極其傷痛，禱告更加懇切，汗珠如大血點滴在地上。

※Like an olive in a press, Jesus is literally having the life squeezed out of him.
就像人們壓榨橄欖取油一樣，耶穌活生生地被虐死。
Gethsemane comes from the Hebrew words gat-גת (“press”) and shemanim שמנים- (“oils”).
「客西馬尼」希伯來原文是「榨」+「油」兩字合成。
Through this we can see that when we understand the original Hebrew, we gain unprecedented access to the true inner meaning of the story.
從希伯來原文，讓我們能深深體會耶穌為我們上十字架的苦難。
