本文:《耶穌來不是要廢去律法,乃是要成全律法。》
《Jesus and the smallest letter》
Jesus was a Jew and preached to a Jewish audience. Although he was beloved by many, some of his Jewish followers were concerned that he was calling for the eradication of the Torah and the creation of an entirely new covenant in its place. This was never his intention.
耶穌是猶太人,並向猶太觀眾傳道。儘管他受到許多人的喜愛,但祂的一些猶太信徒卻擔心他會根除托拉,並建立一個全新的約來取代。但是,這絕不是耶穌的意圖。
※What was Jesus’ intention?
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reassured his disciples that despite the revolutionary content of some of his teachings, he had no intention of “abolishing the law or the prophets”.
在登山寶訓中,耶穌向門徒保證,儘管祂的教義具完全創新的內容,但祂無意「廢除律法或先知」。
※Not Even the Smallest Iota
*Jesus said that “not one letter…will pass from the law until all is accomplished” (Matthew 5:18).
18 我實在告訴你們,就是到天地都廢去了,律法的一點一畫也不能廢去,都要成全。
18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota(2503), not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.(ESV)
ἰῶτα;(2503) ἰῶτα iōta ee-o-tah
Of Hebrew origin (the tenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet :yodh י); “iota”, the name of the eighth letter of the Greek alphabet:Θ θ;Θητα;Theta
noun: nominative, singular, neuter
1-the Hebrew letter `, the smallest of them all
~
*The original Greek text of the Gospel of Matthew says “not one iota”.
The Greek letter iota is derived from the Hebrew letter yod. Its name comes from the Hebrew word yad (יד) meaning “hand”, because it is shaped like a little finger. Yod is so small that ancient scribes sometimes left it out of words to save space.
希臘字iota是從希伯來文(yod)י 而來,這一畫像小拇指,因為太小了,有文士為節省空間,甚至不寫。
※See the Hebrew State of Mind
Jesus’ audience spoke Hebrew and would have immediately understood his point: the yod is the smallest - and seemingly most trivial letter - in the Hebrew alphabet. So “not one yod will pass from the law” means “not even the smallest detail will be eliminated from the Torah.”
知道希伯來文一點一畫的字,就明白耶穌所說的意思,耶穌說律法書即使是一點一畫任何人都不可更改或添加的。
