《The oldest version of Jerusalem 耶路撒冷城年代久遠》

※More than just another old name不僅僅是另一個舊名字
*Digging the foundations for a new highway in the western half of Jerusalem’s New City, Israeli archaeologists came across a large 2,000-year-old stone column with a very rare inscription.
以色列考古學家在耶路撒冷新城西半部挖掘一條新高速公路的基礎上，無意中發現了一個有著2000年曆史的大石柱，上面刻著非常罕見的銘文。

*It says, “Hananya son of Dodolus from Jerusalem מירושלים.”
它說：「來自耶路撒冷的Dodolus的兒子Hananya。」

*This is just the name of a Jewish man, so what is the big deal? It is the oldest written version of the full name “Jerusalem” ever to be found, dating back to the 1st century BCE.
猶太人的名字並不是重點，那麼最重要的是什麼？

※The importance of a single letter一個重要的字母

*As strange as it sounds, the truly amazing feature of this inscription is the presence of the tiniest Hebrew letter ‘yod’ (י). This is roughly equivalent to the letter ‘i’.
聽起來很奇怪，這個銘文的真正神奇之處在於最小的希伯來字母yod(י)。 這字大致相當於字母i。

*In all previously deciphered ancient inscriptions mentioning Jerusalem, the city’s name appears without a yod, pronounced Yerushalem.

*The inscription gives us undeniable proof that the name we use today for the city Yerushalayim, is the very same name that has been used for almost 2,000 years.
