一1-17節--神重用的人-但以理

但以理書 第1章

照你所知,但以理在耶路撒冷成長至幾多歲,才與同胞一起被敵人擄至一千三百公里以外的巴比倫?根據經文的資料推算,他大概是正值青年期吧。他是第一批被擄走的以色列人,但他往後的人生,卻成了一個鮮活的例子,證明人即使被連根拔起,被逼離開國土和摯愛的親人,要在一個充滿敵意的環境中生活,但他仍可繼續為神而活。他在往後的70多年光景中,至少經歷了四個王朝的更替,但他始終能夠勇敢無懼地見證神。

幸虧在他的童年時代,他便在父母的教導下認識神的律法和神的權能。他長大以後的生活見證,便清楚顯示這些真理已深嵌在他的心中。對於為人父母者,以及主日學老師並青少年導師來說,這無疑是一大鼓舞;因為他們雖然不能馬上看見事奉的成果,但他們所播種的種子,終必帶來豐富的收成。

我們今天當然可以透過聖經,看見神對但以理一生的計劃,可是,但以理本人卻不能。巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒成功攻陷了耶路撒冷,自然會誇讚他們的神勝過以色列的神。誰不知那正是以色列的神的心意,要容讓這事的發生。神刻意安排但以理住在尼布甲尼撒的宮中生活,為的是要提醒王一個事實,就是他之擁有這個權位,完全是出於神的旨意。但以理在宮中的生活,便不斷見證以色列的神,才是獨一的永活真神,唯獨祂在人的國中掌權(四17下)。

這便是但以理書的核心信息,它對我們今天仍然非常適用。我們很容易像尼布甲尼撒一樣,認為一切成就都是自己的功勞,但這卻非事實,因為一切事情皆有神的心意。我們經常以為自己可以計劃未來,但實則不然,我們只能將生命交在神的手中。

神對我們有甚麼期望呢?祂期望我們能靠祂而活,在日常生活中表彰祂的權能、慈愛和恩典。你願意將生命交給祂嗎?但願我們一起來到神的面前,求祂今天進入我們的生命之中,向我們顯明祂是永活的真神,而且唯獨祂才能滿足世人的需要。

How old was Daniel when he was taken 1300 kms (800 miles) from his home in Jerusalem to Babylon? In his late teens? He was among the first to be captured but his subsequent life was a remarkable example of living for God even in a hostile environment, far removed from home and loved ones. He became a fearless witness for God to at least four kings and empires over a time span of more than 70 years.

Somehow as a young boy at home he had learned about the law of God and the power of God. His adult life showed how deeply these lessons had taken root. That fact can be a strong encouragement to parents, Sunday school teachers and Christian workers who dont always see the final fruit of their ministries. The seed they sow will ultimately produce a harvest.

From our perspective we can see how God had a plan for Daniels life. Nebuchadnezzar could easily have boasted that the gods of Babylon were greater than Israels God because he had captured Jerusalem. He did not realise that it was that same God who had allowed this to happen. To remind the king that he held his position and power by the will of God, Daniel was placed in the centre of Nebuchadnezzars court. There he gave continued testimony to the truth that the God of Israel was the one true living God who alone controls the affairs of men (Daniel 4:17b).

That is the message of this remarkable book. It is relevant for us today. It is as easy for us as it was for Nebuchadnezzar to think that we have accomplished the work ourselves. We have not. God alone does the work. We often think we can plan for ourselves. We cannot. We can only leave our lives in His hands.

What is God looking for today? He is. looking for lives through whom He can demonstrate His power, His love and His grace. Are you letting Him do this through you? Why not ask God to show through your life today that He is still the living God who alone can meet the needs of men and women everywhere?
