尼希米記 第8章

在水門前的復興

當你讀出這段經文的第1節時，豈不感到很振奮？以色列人都聚集在水門前，為的是要聆聽神的話語。他們聚集在這裡只有一個目的。他們要求以斯拉做些甚麼？以斯拉將律法書帶來，要誦讀給百姓聽。

第4節提到的木台，可說是聖經唯一一個提及的講台。以斯拉站在講台上，高聲稱頌神是至大的神(6節)。百姓都同應「阿們！阿們！」，並一同敬拜神。

當以斯拉誦讀神的話語時，由於律法是用希伯來文寫成，有些百姓是在巴比倫長大，只聽得懂阿拉伯文，所以便需要別人為他們傳譯，讓他們能清楚明白律法的意思。參與其中的百姓，一定很珍惜此次經驗。

百姓為到有機會聆聽神的話語，固然覺得高興；可是，當他們明白了神的律法後，卻又忍不住哭起來。因為神的話語進入他們的內心，讓他們醒覺自己的罪，於是便在神的面前放聲痛哭。

百姓都為自己的罪而深感哀慟，但尼希米卻對他們說：「請聽我說，神既然指出你們的罪，你們又願意悔改，那麼，神必赦免你們。你們應該為此而歡喜快樂！」你有過這種破涕為笑的經驗嗎？

此外，他們還互相分享食物。請看第10節。我們也要學習與人分享神的賜予，不要將神的賜福留為己用。

接著的幾節經文，還提到他們遵從律法的教導去守住棚節(參利未記二十三34)。經文提到，自約書亞的時候至他們當天，他們都一直沒有遵行律法的要求去守節，這次可說是他們的「創舉」了。

這段經文為我們描繪了一幅美麗的圖畫，當中包含了很多真理及原則。但願你能反覆細讀，明白研讀神的話語和聽命而行的重要性。

REVIVAL AT THE WATER-GATE

Isnt the picture in the first verse thrilling? All the people packed around the water-gate standing ready to hear the Word of God. They came together for a purpose. What did they ask Ezra to do? Ezra was to bring the Word of God and read it aloud to them.

Verse 4 has the only reference to a pulpit in the Bible. Ezra stood on it and praised the Lord, the great God (v. 6). The people all agreed, saying, Amen, Amen, and they worshipped God together.

Then there was a need to translate and to explain the meaning of the words. These people had lived in Babylon and understood Aramaic, while the law had been written in Hebrew. What a wonderful experience it must have been.

The people were very happy. But at the same time, as the law of God was explained to them, they burst into tears. They realised their sin as the Word spoke to their hearts. They could only weep in repentance.

There was great conviction, but Nehemiah said (v. 9), Listen to me, if God has spoken to you about your sin and you have repented, then he has forgiven you. Therefore you ought to be happy and joyful Do you know that feeling?

One thing more. They were to share it with someone else. See verse 10. That is what we need to do also. Dont keep your blessings to yourself. They are to be shared with others.

In the verses that follow they did what they hadnt done for years-they kept one of the feasts which God had instructed them to keep many years before (Leviticus 23:34).

The picture is wonderful. The truths and principles are even more so. Look again at these verses and see what God has to say to you today about the reading of his Word and your obedience to it.

A VERSE FOR TODAY:

The joy of the Lord is your strength (v. 10).
